Words from the Founder

Stepping into October, the annual Taiwan Arts Festival is back, and it will be celebrating its 15th anniversary! Even though the COVID-19 pandemic has made it exceptionally difficult to prepare for this year’s events, the Kwang Hwa Information and Cultural Centre has made it possible for the Festival to bring a wealth of exciting and diverse activities to Hong Kong.

2020 has been one tough year for everybody, and Hong Kong’s arts sector has experienced its share of ups and downs. Many arts practitioners struggling with their livelihoods have even opted to change careers. Just when there are a little more than two months left of the year, we received news of the departure of the Chief Executive Officer of the West Kowloon Cultural District Authority, Duncan Pescod, causing a political storm. A member of the Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra who contracted the coronavirus has also caused more than 100 people in the Orchestra to go into quarantine and the Hong Kong Cultural Centre to have to close immediately for thorough cleansing and sterilisation.

The road ahead is unknown, but I wish everyone health and wellness!
