安德烈.巴爾卡室樂團的成員,原是在國際樂壇獨當一面的獨奏家、室樂家,並不歸屬於任何一個樂團;後來,獲安德拉斯.席夫爵士親自邀請在薩爾斯堡的莫扎特音樂周上,演奏全集莫扎特鋼琴協奏曲而成立,1999至2005年演畢全集。此後,安德烈.巴爾卡室樂團便成為薩爾斯堡莫扎特音樂周的固定演奏嘉賓。
在席夫的帥領下,室樂團漸漸拓闊演奏領域。從1999年起,在維琴察的奧林匹克劇院組織了向帕拉迪奧致敬音樂節;而2001年,上演莫扎特的《女人皆如此》。在2004至2007年間,室樂團每年都在威瑪藝術節獻藝。此外,室樂團經常在維也納、因斯布魯克、蘇黎世、巴塞爾、日內瓦、雅典、布魯塞爾、盧森堡、科隆、埃森、多蒙特、杜塞多夫、法蘭克福、不來梅、巴登.巴登、布達佩斯及里斯本等歐洲名城作巡迴演奏。2006年為「莫扎特年」,樂團兩度巡演,更遠赴美國,在紐約卡奈基音樂廳、華盛頓艾維利費沙音樂廳和甘迺迪演藝中心獻技。多年來,樂團參與了不少重大音樂節,當中包括:2008和2010年的波恩貝多芬節;2006和2012年在琉森音樂節演出巴赫的《B小調彌撒曲》;2014年與巴塔薩.紐曼合唱團合演貝多芬的《莊嚴彌撒曲》;2014及2015年參加施瓦岑貝格舒伯特音樂節;2016年參加石勒蘇益格.荷爾斯泰因音樂節和萊茵區音樂節。2017年,室樂團曾在格斯達音樂高峰會上作客席演出。
席夫的理想,是讓安德烈.巴爾卡室樂團有力地向世人展示:這個室樂團是獨奏與室樂兩者皆精的組合。這一點,即使當今一流樂團也未必勝任,席夫如是說:「我在樂團擔任指揮,是室樂的延伸。我們是由傑出的獨奏家組成的室樂組合,基本上他們全是室樂演奏家。樂團中有多位成員都來自弦樂四重奏,而弦樂四重奏是演奏音樂的頂峰。」再者,席夫認為人性與品格同等重要:「樂團容不下自高自大的人。這個樂團是以友誼、理解與平等為基礎,大家抱著相同的理想,追求著美、音樂、人性。」

Conductor and Piano: Sir András Schiff
The musicians of the Cappella Andrea Barca are primarily active as globally successful soloists and chamber musicians and are not tied to any orchestras. They were selected personally by Sir András Schiff for the performance of the complete Mozart's piano concertos at the Mozartwoche Salzburg from 1999 to 2005. Since then, the Cappella Andrea Barca has been a regular guest at the Salzburg Mozartwochen.
Gradually, under the direction of Schiff, the chamber orchestra widened their scope. Since 1999, they have organised the Omaggio a Palladio Festival at the Teatro Olimpico in Vicenza, with Mozart's Così fan tutte in 2001. The chamber orchestra was also a guest at the Kunstfest Weimar in the years of 2004 to 2007. In addition, they have toured numerous European cities such as Vienna, Innsbruck, Zurich, Basel, Geneva, Athens, Brussels, Luxembourg, Cologne, Essen, Dortmund, Düsseldorf, Frankfurt, Bremen, Baden-Baden, Budapest and Lisbon. Two tours in the "Mozart Year" in 2006 led the Cappella Andrea Barca to the United States – Carnegie Hall in New York, the Avery Fisher Hall and John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in Washington, D.C.. The chamber orchestra performed at important festivals like the Beethovenfest Bonn in 2008 and 2010, Lucerne Festival (with J.S. Bach's Mass in B minor in 2006 and 2012, and with Beethoven's Missa Solemnis with the Balthasar Neumann Chorus in 2014), Schubertiade Schwarzenberg in 2014 and 2015, and Schleswig-Holstein Music Festival and Rheingau Music Festival in 2016. In 2017, they were a guest at the Sommets Musicaux de Gstaad Festival.
Schiff's ambition is to present the Cappella Andrea Barca in a way that allows the chamber orchestra to prove themselves in soloist and chamber music formations, which is something that most established orchestras will struggle to achieve. “What I work with as a conductor is an extension of chamber music; the Cappella is a chamber music ensemble of excellent soloists, but above all chamber musicians. There are many string quartet players in this orchestra, and playing the string quartet is the pinnacle of making music”. Moreover, Schiff considers the human and personal component equally important: “There is no place for the egotist. This ensemble is based on friendship, understanding, equality and equal ideals – aesthetic, musical and human”.
