A play whose sweet and poetic words capture a girl’s dream come true after a lonely and difficult life
Olivier PY, the leading playwright in French contemporary theater, actor and Director of the blue-riband Festival d’Avignon since 2013, wrote a trilogy of pieces based on Grimms’ fairy tales published in 1812, of which “The Real Fiancée” was one.
Directed by the globe-trotting dramatist MIYAGI Satoshi, General Artistic Director of Shizuoka Performing Arts Center (SPAC) , the work tells the story of a young girl forced by her cruel stepmother to work nonstop every day until she finally escapes from the house and runs into the woods where she meets a prince and falls in love.
With dramatic poems embroidering this simple story, SPAC’s resident actors superbly dramatize PY’s work with their singing and enthusiastic live percussion music. In addition, its exquisite origami-style stage sets, and lighting effects that create a monochrome, shadow-picture world, add a breathtaking beauty to this production. Then, when the popular film-makers MOTOHIRO Katsuyuki and ONO Shintaro were enlisted to respectively supervise and direct a video of the work, they made it even more appealing by including views of the Shizuoka Arts Theatre, SPAC’s base.

『グリム童話～本物のフィアンセ～』
雨のように降り注ぐ詩のような言葉
孤独や苦難の先に待つ少女の幸福
現代フランス演劇を代表する劇作家オリヴィエ・ピィが、グリム童話をもとに独自の視点を盛り込んだ３部作の一つ。演出は、アヴィニョン演劇祭への招へいをうけるなど国内外で活躍する宮城聰。継母に毎日無理難題を押しつけられていた少女は森に逃れ、偶然出会った王様と恋に落ち……。シンプルな物語を彩る劇詩、歌と楽器演奏、折り紙をイメージした繊細なビジュアル、影絵のようなシルエットが浮かぶモノクロームの世界。映画監督・本広克行が監修、尾野慎太郎が映像演出を手がけ、宮城が芸術総監督をつとめるSPAC（静岡県舞台芸術センター）の拠点、静岡芸術劇場の景色を織り込み、息を呑む美しい映像作品に仕上がっている。
